A Masterclass in Jaipur: RR vs LSG Highlights
In a thrilling encounter during Match 64 of the 2026 Indian Premier League, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) secured a crucial victory against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. With the playoff race intensifying, the Men in Pink managed a clinical seven-wicket win, completing a double over their opponents and breathing new life into their campaign.
First Innings: LSG Sets a Daunting Target
With Riyan Parag sidelined due to a hamstring injury, Yashasvi Jaiswal stepped into the captaincy role, electing to field first after winning the toss. The Royals introduced Lhuan-dre-Pretorius, Sushant Mishra, and Sandeep Sharma into the playing XI. LSG countered with tactical changes, bringing in Mohsin Khan and Ayush Badoni.
The Super Giants’ innings began with explosive intent. Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis put on a clinic during the powerplay, racing to 82/0. The duo built a formidable 109-run opening partnership before Inglis was dismissed after a stunning 60 off just 29 deliveries. Mitchell Marsh continued his assault, bringing up a brisk 25-ball half-century, while Nicholas Pooran provided valuable support. Despite losing wickets at intervals, LSG finished on a commanding 220/5, with Marsh agonizingly falling for 96 in the final over.
The Chase: Sooryavanshi’s Sensational Knock
Chasing a target of 221, the Royals required a strong start, and they received exactly that from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The pair mirrored the intensity of the first innings, accumulating 71 runs within the powerplay. While Jaiswal took the role of the primary aggressor, scoring 43, Sooryavanshi played the perfect foil, anchoring the innings with poise beyond his years.
Following Jaiswal’s departure, the game shifted into high gear as Sooryavanshi took control. Displaying a rare combination of patience and brutality, he smashed 10 sixes and 7 fours in a blistering 93-run knock. Though he fell seven runs short of a well-deserved century, his innings dismantled the LSG bowling attack. Dhruv Jurel provided excellent support, remaining unbeaten on 53 off 37 balls to guide the Royals across the finish line.
The Rising Star Stays Grounded
Post-match, Sooryavanshi was rightfully named the Player of the Match. Reflecting on his calculated approach, the youngster revealed that his time spent watching from the dugout during the first innings proved instrumental. “I was thinking that today I shouldn’t rush too much at the start,” he explained. “I should take some time, and if I bat for a longer period, it’s going to help the batter at the other end as well. I know I can hit boundaries or sixes anytime, so I can take a little more time and try to take the game till the end.”
Addressing the growing media attention and praise for his performances, Sooryavanshi remains strikingly humble and focused. “I don’t really see too much, I don’t read newspapers, so I don’t think too much about it. I just think that this is only the start,” he remarked. He emphasized that his focus is purely on long-term growth and consistency, stating, “If my career becomes long, people will say many more things. My focus should just remain on the game and I should complete my journey.”
Regarding his unique celebrations, Sooryavanshi noted that they are completely spontaneous. “I don’t really plan it. There’s no meaning behind it. I just keep trying new things,” he concluded. As the Rajasthan Royals look ahead to their remaining fixtures, the form of this young prodigy will undoubtedly be the cornerstone of their playoff push.
