Uncertainty Over James Pamment’s Future with Bangladesh National Team

Uncertainty has emerged over whether Bangladesh national team’s fielding coach James Pamment will continue in his role.

Pamment was absent during Bangladesh’s recent Test series against Pakistan, and the team will once again be without him for the upcoming home series against Australia.

According to information obtained by BDCricTime, Pamment will not be available for the Australia series. The New Zealand-born coach suffered an injury before the Pakistan series and has yet to fully recover.

Pamment’s Ongoing Injury Concerns

Sources also suggest that Pamment has been dealing with multiple injury setbacks over the past year. As a result, he is no longer keen on continuing his duties with the Bangladesh national team.

Pamment was appointed as Bangladesh’s fielding coach in April 2025, with a contract running until the 2027 ODI World Cup. However, his ongoing injury concerns could force an early end to his stint with the Tigers.

Changes in Bangladesh’s Coaching Setup

During the Pakistan series, Ashiqur Rahman Majumder stepped in as Bangladesh’s fielding coach. He is also expected to take on the role during the Australia series.

Bangladesh’s coaching setup has recently seen several major changes.

Fielding coach James Pamment’s future remains uncertain, while pace bowling coach Shaun Tait has already stepped down from his position. Spin bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed will also miss the Australia series.

Because of the current situation, senior assistant coach Mohammad Salahuddin is set to remain with the national team for the Australia series. Former Bangladesh pacer Talha Jubair is also expected to serve as the team’s interim pace bowling coach.

Upcoming Australia Series

If everything goes according to plan, head coach Phil Simmons could be the only foreign coach in Bangladesh’s support staff during the upcoming Australia series, with the remaining coaching roles handled by local coaches.

Australia are scheduled to tour Bangladesh for a six-match white-ball series featuring three ODIs and three T20 Internationals.
